First of all, Yosemite National Park is just a 4 hour drive east of San Francisco (and relatively close to San Diego and LA as well). However, you would never know it when you get out in this vast wilderness area. Quite simply, the park offers something for everyone, whatever your tastes are.

It is well known for its’ great hiking areas. Here you can view Yosemite falls, and you can also check out the famous Giant Sequoias. However, rock climbing is another hugely popular activity as well.

Everglades National Park
Everglades National Park is just an hour west of Miami, and for this reason is drivable for many people. Most do not think of it as being a camping destination, but it is actually one of the better camping areas in the southeast. It offers hiking, and some excellent boating and fishing, as well as bird watching.

Adirondacks State Park
The Adirondacks State Park is one place you should consider if you are in the northeast. There are tons of excellent camping locations here, particularly around the high peaks region. If you are a mountain climber, you will not get bored with the 46 4000+ peaks the area offers. It also offers some excellent backcountry skiing opportunities in the winter. Best of all, they are just a short 5 hour drive from New York City, meaning it is drivable for many.

Grand Canyon
No weekend camping article would be complete without talking about the Grand Canyon. This offers some incredible camping opportunities, and is known as being a hiker’s paradise. It has some of the most incredible hiking views anywhere in America.

Just be sure to bring plenty of water! There are precious few places to refill between the rim and the Colorado River, so this is very important. It is just three hours from Phoenix, and is not far from other large California cities.
